The information on the phenomenon of the gerontological ageism is systematized in the article on the basis of the analysis of foreign and domestic scientific literature. The gerontological ageism is defined as the practices of discrimination, negligence or humiliation of human dignity realized on the basis of negative age stereotypification, and also negative age stereotypes concerning the senior age groups. The manifestations and factors of the ageism in healthcare institutions are analyzed on the basis of data obtained as a result of an expert poll. It is proved that specialized work on ageism prevention and overcoming isn’t conducted in healthcare institutions of the studied region. Among the measures for ageism overcoming in healthcare institutions the most effective measures for experts are: raising gerontological competence of medical stuff, arranging trainings on interaction with elderly patients, the development of the system of diagnostics of quality of services provided to elderly people, the development of guidelines on elderly patients care, and systematic information of medical staff on the problem of ageism.
